3 Chamlee, Paula Natural Connections Photographs
Revere, Pennsylvania Lodima Press (1994) 0960564667 / 9780960564668 First Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket Signed by Author
An excellent copy of the book and dust jacket. Nearly new. Signed and inscribed by the photographer on the half-title page. Also includes an autograph letter from Chamlee on Lodima Press letterhead plus another longer letter from her husband and fellow photographer, Michael A. Smith. All in great condition. ; Oblong Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; Few women have attempted to photograph the American landscape in the classic, large-format tradition pioneered by Edward Weston and Ansel Adams, and none so successfully as Paula Chamlee. She extends that tradition in photographs that are both sensuous and lyrical, yet subtle and complex. Chamlee's beautiful and arresting prints transcend their recognisable subject matter, while remaining deeply rooted in her profound connection to the natural world. Chamlee's journal entries - accounts of her experiences and insights while travelling and photographing - are carefully interwoven throughout the book, adding another dimension to our understanding of the artist and her work. The introductory essay by art historian and critic Estelle Jussim offers further insights, and explores the development and creative life of the woman behind these extraordinary photographs.; Signed by Author
